AAOM offers a free membership classification. Please join via our online application and selecting the OM Advocate category. This is an ONLINE MEMBERSHIP only, so your email address is required. The AAOM also requests that you renew annually so that we may have your latest contact information.

Advocacy & News Updates

AAOM's advocacy provides timely updates to keep you advised on the "State of OM". Additionally, our grass-roots advocacy creates the opportunity for our membership and the profession-at-large to directly write their legislators about a myriad of topics. Not only do you receive these updates via email, but all are archived in the AAOM press room.
- American Acupuncturist: The American Acupuncturist is the official publication of the AAOM. It is published quarterly, in December, March, June and September. Inside the journal you will find a wide variety of academic and political articles concerning the Oriental Medicine professional. Topics range from new techniques and treatments to updates on important legislation and reports from various AAOM committees. The American Acupuncturist keeps you abreast of all the latest research from the country's leading professionals. It is also the best source for information on upcoming seminars and conferences and updates on AAOM sponsored events. OM Advocates are notified of where they may download a PDF copy of The American Acupuncturist.
- Qi-Unity Report: Participation in and Receipt of AAOM's Qi Unity Report – A monthly collaborative news letter (published the 3rd Monday of each month) written by, for and about the profession. AAOM members are encouraged to contribute – to view the range of opportunities it offers to keep informed, or to offer your services to other members in the profession, you are welcome to learn more.

Past Issues and Articles of The American Acupuncturist: In this section of the library you will find links to past issues and additional material (PDF documents).
History of Acupuncture: In this section of the library you will find a brief history of acupuncture and herbology written by AAOM. Following this overview, we are pleased to provide a myriad of web links covering this history of acupuncture.
Guidelines on Basic Training and Safety in Acupuncture (PDF): The World Health Organization convened a Scientific Group in 1989 that recommended WHO develop a series of statements and guidelines on acupuncture relating to basic training and safety. More than 50 international experts shared their knowledge and experience in the preparation of this document.
Acupuncture and Pain Management: One of the primary reasons people seek acupuncture treatment is to address pain in the body relating to a specific illness or problem, or relating to a chronic condition. We are pleased to provide various articles and research highlighting pain management through acupuncture.
Acupuncture and Addiction: Acupuncture has been advocated as a safe effective treatment for addictive diseases. Within this section of the Library AAOM is pleased to provide information, resources and we blinks pertaining to the treatment of various types of addiction through acupuncture.

As a means of introduction, we are pleased to provide an overview of the growth of complimentary medicine within the United States.
All States Library: In this section of the Library, AAOM is pleased to provide a comprehensive directory of state websites.
- AcupediaOnline.org: Following the www.wikipedia.org format, this website premiers in August 2006 as an online encyclopedia for the patient community and lay public. Designed to hugely expand public awareness and outreach for our profession, the site will feature AOM and CAM therapies + AOM and Integrative medial options. The Acupedia website will offer a wonderful tool to educate your clients.
